Which side of Kauai is better?
The North Shore of Kauai tends to be more rural and relaxed, while the South Shore offers incredible sports, shops, and dining. The East Shore is a really popular one for visitors because of the convenience of activities and attractions. The West Shore is mostly set aside for state parks. When is Kauai least crowded?
Hawaii, in general, is less crowded between January and May and between September and November. The summer months, as well as December, tend to be more crowded.
What is the time difference from the continental US?
Hawaii is on Hawaiian Standard time, which is 2 hours behind Pacific and 5 hours behind Eastern. Hawaii does not observe Daylight Savings Time.

What animals can I see in Kauai?
Swimming in the Hawaiian oceans is an incredible activity, and it’s very safe in the Summer. Green turtles are extremely common and if you look out at the ocean long enough you will see a head or two emerge from the water. At certain times of the year, they will head to shore and nest on specific beaches. They are endangered and federally protected just like our rare seals.
You will see plenty of monk seals lounging around. They don’t exist anywhere else in the world! the seals come ashore to rest and are usually in roped off areas on popular beaches. They should never be approached or touched.
Dolphins can also be seen throughout the year. Humpback whales make seasonal migrations past the island, so be sure to look up when is the best time to see them. They come in the winter months to have their babies.
There are many exotic birds including the state bird that uses the island as a major nesting ground. The Nene looks almost like a goose and is protected. You can find them in the Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.
