5 Best Beaches for Weddings on Kauai

If you’re planning to have a destination wedding on breathtaking Kauai, you’re in for the most beautiful day of your life.

There is so much to see and do while you’re celebrating your nuptials, and there are tons of stunning beaches to say your vows upon. Here are the top five beaches we recommend for destination weddings on Kauai, all conveniently located near our Waipouli Beach Resort rentals.

Tunnels Beach

Tunnels beach

This is a stunning private beach on the North Shore on the way to Ke’e. You and your future spouse will have plenty of space and a stunning view of the ocean and green Kauai mountains.

Lumahai Beach

Lumahai Beach

Another quiet place to get married on the North Shore of Kauai, this beach is perfect for a summer wedding when the rain is less likely to impact your plans. There’s nearby parking so it’s easy to reach your ideal spot on the sand, and the gorgeous trees in the background make for a perfect photo op.

Please note that the walk down to this beach is a steep, usually muddy trail. Parking is about a 1/4 a mile away, but don’t let this deter you. This beach is perfect for an adventurous couple or group and is absolutely gorgeous!

Polihale Beach

Polihale Beach

This beach is ideal if you want something private, as it’s a pretty far trek. You’ll have to drive to the far west side of the island and navigate the long dirt road heading to the beach. If you are looking to have a small ceremony on a wide-open beach, this is the spot for you.

Hanalei Beach/Pier

Finally, Hanalei Beach is a picture-perfect destination for your wedding, but it does tend to be more crowded than some of the other locations on this list. If you plan to get married at Hanalei Beach and Pier, we recommend planning a wedding during the week when it’s a bit less crowded.

How to Plan Your Destination Wedding

So, you know you want a destination wedding, but how do you go about planning it? First, take advantage of local wedding vendors for your cake, flowers, food, and more. You may even choose to have a special Hawaiian touch on your ceremony like a ukulele player or using leis instead of your traditional bouquet. There are multiple wedding planners throughout the island who can help you navigate the ins-and-outs of planning your Hawaiian wedding.

Before you start securing reservations, ask yourself and your spouse a few questions. Would you rather have a simple barefoot ceremony, or are you looking for something more lavish? How many people do you plan to have in your wedding party? Consider the time of year you are wanting to get married, as the weather may impact your plans. Ask yourself these questions first, and make reservations as early as possible. Destination weddings in Hawaii are a popular option for many couples, so more sought-after destinations and service providers may be booked far in advance.

Wedding Permit

Please note that no matter how small your perfect beach wedding ceremony is, you will need to get a permit from the state. This is possible online at this link, or your wedding coordinator can set this up for you as well!
