Kauai Island Brewing Company
This is a top choice for local Kauai breweries, hands down. The reason it’s one of the best around is because of its proximity to the Kilohana Plantation and more. Indeed, it’s one of the most conveniently located breweries around, super close to every kind of thing you could ever want to see and explore here in Kauai. They call this place “The World’s Westernmost Brewery,” and it’s been around for over a decade. It’s open daily from 12-9, and you can also catch Happy Hour from 3:30-5:30. This microbrewery takes extra precautions to carefully curate every flavor to make it fresh and authentic; You’ll never taste two beers quite the same, a proud fact they boast about. If you come in on certain days, you might get to meet Dave Curry, the local owner.
Kauai Beer Company
Also open 12-9 daily, this spot has won not only a 2020 Traveler’s Choice for Beer by Trip Advisor but also a 2019 Recommended Kauai Beer Company award by Restaurant Guru. Here, they’re serious about hosting year-round events in which you get to try different flavors and re-brandings. Bring your friends and go there to hang out. They’ve been around since 1978 and keep their doors open to anyone 18 and older. They’re one of the friendliest breweries around, too. Nani Moon Meadery
Closed Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday (but open every other day from 12-5), Nani Moon Meadery & Tasting Room always offers a one-of-a-kind featured cocktail (which can change per season). One of the top featured drinks lately has been the Kaua’i Mojito, which includes pineapple, mint, honey, lime, and much more. They distill it with some light rum and top it all off with a nice, cool Perrier. It’s the perfect kick-off to the perfect evening of relaxation and fun. If you like Mead drinks, you should try their Buzz Squared, including Kona coffee portions and even honey. So, whenever you’re ready to step out of your beautiful beach resort vacation rental, grab a pint in paradise at Nani Moon Meadery!
Distilleries
Kauai Distilling Company
Open 10-8 every day, but 10:30-6 on Sunday, the Kauai Distilling Company is a popular distillery with three locations in other states. This Kauai location is exceptionally rated and makes itself quite distinct in its cigars, honey, coffee, and chocolate. “Trust is a two-way street. Please drink responsibly.” This is their brand statement, and they live by it well. They trust all consumers are responsible adults who can handle their amazing (sometimes quite loaded but in a good way!) drinks. Their selections are so popular that you can even find them in other breweries and even some local grocery stores in the area, too.
They specialize in using no less than Hawaiian-grown coffee crops, all value-added and top-of-the-line. One of the favorites of customers here is the Kapahi Bourbon Whisky, which they also sell in multiple varieties (for varying occasions, moods, etc.). In addition, their Virgin Kea stands out quite well among locals and boasts of being completely un-aged and pure. Here, you can also get honey pots or jars from locally sourced hives and even purely farmed corn products. Enjoy!
Hanalei Spirits
Enter from 10-4 (except Sat/Sun) to taste some of the purest Mount Waialeale vodka you’ve ever had: bottles come in either 50 ML, 375 ML, or 750 ML sizes. You get a 40% ABV with this top-choice drink. They craft this one by hand, and you can get it here on location or order online once you get home. This drink has even taken home a Gold Medal award on behalf of the one and only Denver International Spirits Competition 2020. It’s bold, innovative, and inspiring, so make it the first one you try out when you visit!
Also, if you like variety packs, then this might be the best local distillery to try a little bit of everything. They can sell these packs for around $43 a pack. It typically includes a random mix of five different spirit bottles. If you’d like to get your hands on recipes for making your own craft cocktails and more, you can do that here. They specialize in multiple mixes, and the staff here is quite knowledgeable in offering input if you’re unsure how to make a specific blend right. Koloa Rum
Their main store is open 10-5 daily, and their main tasting room opens from 10:15-4. So come in any morning or afternoon and check out tons of varietals of their famous rum. They’ve got a massive lineup and are always adding new styles or flavors to the mix to keep things interesting. Some of their premium rums have even won countless local awards in excellence and innovation.
The Kōloa Kauaʻi Dark Rum is an undisputed favorite around here, so be sure to give it a try when you visit.
For fans of home décor and apparel be sure to swing by their merchandise shop. They sell all kinds of rum-related merchandise, some even humorous, that can leave a lasting taste of your visit with you.
