Whether you’re staying at a one or two-bedroom unit at Waipouli Beach Resort and Spa or any of our three-bedroom Kauai condo rentals, you could be within walking distance or a short ride to one of these best Kauai coffee shops.
Dark roast. Espresso. Pour-over. Specialty coffees. Even organic coffee. You’re sure to find your favorite joe—or discover a new one!—at these coffee shops on Kauai.
IMUA Coffee Roasters
Ensuring optimal flavor is the main goal at IMUA. So far, the goal seems to be consistently met. As one reviewer on Yelp states, “Stopped at this specific location three times on my trip to Kauai, and it was perfect every time!” Another reveals that the coffee beans are ground into your latte as you order for an unbelievably fresh taste.
Found along the famous Royal Coconut Coast, IMUA imports and roasts fine coffees. Here, you’ll find a full espresso bar, drip coffee, and pour-over stations as well as whole bean coffee for sale. Cold brews are also available.
Pair your coffee of choice with a croissant (several varieties, such as ham and cheese or pear and fig), pastry (like the macadamia sticky bun), or muffin. Sit out on the cute lanai and enjoy your coffee and breakfast!
Stop in IMUA Monday – Saturday 6 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Aloha Roastery
Nothing says “Aloha!” to a new day quite like Aloha Roastery!
Between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day except Sunday, you can drop by Aloha Roastery on Kuhio Highway and order an espresso, latte, cappuccino, mocha, Americano, or cortado. Or maybe just a pour-over is your thing.
Are you looking for a medium latte with a pungent taste? Try the iced beige! Rich and robust espresso—never a burnt taste! If coffee is NOT your first choice, you might go for the hot chocolate with macadamia milk.
Stay in or take it to go! There’s also an assortment of pastries to go along with your cup. How does a bacon and cheese scone or flaky, buttery croissant sound? Perfect to go with whatever you’re drinking.
Small Town Coffee
Opened in 2004, Small Town Coffee is “where the locals go” as the shop likes to say. Even coffee snobs will fall in love with Small Town Coffee.
It’s easy to spot this unique shop: coffee and house-baked goods are sold from a converted red bus in the old Kojima Center. Choose from espressos, daily brews, cold brew coffees, and specialties (for example, the Wrangled Llama: a 12-oz. latte with local raw honey and a dash of cocoa powder). Smoothies and non-coffee drinks are also on the menu, as are tasty items like assorted pastries, bagels, muffins, and cookies.
Whole bean coffee is also for sale, and online ordering is available. A small deck on the front has a few tables, so if you’re in no rush, you can sit and relax under the shade of an umbrella and enjoy every sip!
Pono Coffee
This bakery has lots of homemade yummies to go along with their hot brewed coffee, latte, Americano, dirty chai, and Kona Mocha frappe. There are also ice coffees!
How about a maple bacon donut to go along with that hot brew? Malasadas with that latte? A sausage roll with iced coffee? Breakfasts include mini fried rice with eggs and cheddar & mozzarella, Portuguese sausage, and corned beef patty with egg and rice.
Got a specific request? Pono might be able to customize your order! Indoor and outdoor dining is available.
Pono Coffee is located on Kuhio Highway. This establishment is open every day but Tuesday, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Plan your visit!

Positive Coffee
Specialty coffee is Positive Coffee’s…well, specialty.
You’ll find this drive-thru coffee service on Kuhio Highway in Kapa’a (the ONLY drive-thru coffee service in town!). While it’s situated in a small bus, Positive is BIG on taste, service, and convenience. And though it’s a drive-thru, there ARE a few picnic tables and chairs you can relax in while you have your morning brew.
The business grew out of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the owners inspired years ago by a coffee cart the couple encountered while on vacation. With safe distancing implemented from the onset of the pandemic, the couple realized it was a perfect opportunity to bring a drive-thru coffee and breakfast business to Kapa’a.
Choose from hot pour-over, cacao brew, or cold brew. Cold-brew comes with coffee ice cubes! Add organic whole or coconut milk. Enjoy breakfast burritos or empanadas made with locally sourced and organic ingredients. Vegan options such as seasoned grilled tofu are offered. The owners are so into their brew that they intend to start classes soon to teach others about the different ways to brew coffee.
Open every day but Saturday, 6:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Positive Coffee is located just off the highway, so it’s just a quick stop on the way to wherever you’re headed for the day.
Start your day Positive!
Garden Island Coffee
Farther along Kuhio Highway in Kapa’a, you’ll find another trailer café amongst a few other food trucks called Garden Island Coffee. This shop’s menu consists of high-grade, handcrafted specialty and organically grown coffees.
What happens when you pair good people with good coffee? A great experience! There’s no small reason why Garden Island Coffee has 5-star and Excellent reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor.
You’ll find drip coffee as well as espresso, latte, mocha, cappuccino, masala chai, and matcha latte, along with cold brews (with cold brew coffee cubes). Some, like the matcha latte, are organic. There are also muffins, cookies, and lilikoi loaf from among bakery goods; organic egg sandwiches such as egg, ham and cheddar or egg, turkey, bacon, cheddar; and Da Spicy Turk (jalapeno cream cheese, pepper, onion, and turkey on a bagel).
Organic smoothies and slushies also appear on the menu. Plus, this one’s close to the beach, so it’s a perfect start to your day in the sand and sun.
As you can see, lots of delicious choices when it comes to your morning or afternoon joe! No matter if you’re hitting the beach, tackling a hiking trail, or setting sail, a good cup of coffee is always a great companion. And if you’re staying in any Kauai condo rentals close to any of these, you can always grab your favorite brew to go and relax at your home away from home before starting the day’s adventure.
