What You Need To Know About the Hanena State Park Shuttle

Waipouli Beach Resort makes for the perfect romantic getaway or quick and easy “exotic” escape. Will you be visiting Kauai’s north shore during your vacation? If so, you’re in for a treat. It’s natural wonders like Hanea State Park and laid back atmosphere make it the ideal choice for people of all ages that are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of their day to day lives. You’ll catch glimpses of breathtaking sunsets, and get to explore natural wonders like mountains and waterfalls.

However, it’s important to be aware of travel precautions before you try to head over. Most people have found that the easiest way to get to and around the area is the North Shore Shuttle. In this post, we’ll fill you in on why so that you can prepare and plan appropriately.

The changes to the number of visitors keep the park a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everybody.

The new Kaua’i North Shore Shuttle makes its way into Ha’ena State Park along the newly-repaired Kuhio Highway. A blessing ceremony was held on June 5 to prepare for the reopening of the highway on June 17, 2019.

Kauai’s North Shore Traffic Problems

Trafic can quickly become unmanagable on Kauai’s north shore. In recent years, traffic issues have grown tremendously. There is only one way into the area and one way out of the area, which leads to the narrow road becoming congested rather quickly, especially during the peak season.

In addition to the traffic, the road can sometimes be dangerous, and when travelers come in their own vehicles they are doing so at their own risk. With the sometimes unpredictable weather, visitors who have come in their own vehicles rather than the shuttle have found themselves “trapped” for hours and sometimes days on the Island while waiting for the roadways to be cleared enough for pedestrian vehicles to make it through.

Why Recent Changes Were Made

North Shore flooding caused road damage, which made the already old infrastructure along the road even more difficult to navigate. This combined with increased tourism causing overcrowding in the area has lead to some changes that are working to mitigate the issues that these factors have lead to.

What You Need To Know

If you plan on soaking up the beauty of Hanea State Park, you will need to make online reservations prior to your arrival, as there are now daily visitor limits. Once you have received the necessary entrance permits, it is important to keep in mind that should you decide to drive, the parking spaces are very limited. For this reason, if you have applied for a camping permit and are staying overnight, it is required that you arrive by shuttle or arrange your own private drop off or pick up.

The North Shore shuttle is relatively simple to use, and it can take away a lot of the stress associated with driving, allowing you to fully relax and enjoy your experience. It makes quick and convenient stops along the way making it super easy to get back to your vacation rental.

Best of all, it only costs $11.00 for a round trip into and out of the park.
